Match Funding – Questions and Answers
Q. I want to raise funds for my favourite charity by carrying out a parachute jump,
does this qualify for match funding?
A. Yes, any type of fundraising event can qualify for match funding as
long as it is legal and funds raised are for a registered charity or charitable
organisation.
Q. I’m holding an event and want to raise funds for more than one charity,
do I need to use more than one paying in slip?
A. No, bank all monies together on the one paying in slip. There is a space on the
match fund request form to indicate payment to more than one charity. Just complete
this and return the form to the Community Team.
Q. I have banked my money and forgotten to complete and return the match fund request
form, what do I do?
A. Don’t worry, contact the Community Team and ensure that you
have all details to hand such as date and amount of money banked. If the payment
can be traced we can still match the donation for you.
Q. How long does it take for the money to come?
A. BACS payment will be sent to your charity about 4-6 weeks after returning your match fund request form.
Q. Is there a charge from Charities Trust for their services?
A.Yes, Charities Trust will charge a 4% fee on all monies banked. This will be
deducted from any Government monies claimed through Giftaid.
Q. The Community Programme states that any donations given through Payroll Giving
will be double matched.
A.
The Group will match the first month’s donation for
anyone who signs up for Payroll Giving. So, if you sign up during January and
donate £10 per month the Group will donate an additional £20 on your behalf but
only after six months of being in the scheme.
Q. I want to take part in the Kilimanjaro trip. Will the Group
match my minimum sponsorship amount of £1,500?
A. Yes, we have specifically allocated funds to match monies
raised by the Kilimanjaro trip. We will however only match £1500 of the
sponsorship raised.
Q. My local hospital are running an appeal for a new scanner would this be excluded
from matching?
A. No, not as long as the hospital is a registered charity with a registered charity
number.
Q. My village is holding a fun day to raise funds to send one of the residents to
Lourdes/Florida, will Bibby match this?
A. No, unfortunately not. We cannot donate funds to individuals.
Q. I have raised £100, does this mean that with Giftaid of 28% and Match Funding
that I will receive £228 back for my charity?
A. Not necessarily, Giftaid claims take about 6-8 weeks so the cheque you receive
initially will be for double the amount that you raise (£200). Any Giftaid
applicable will be claimed and held until the end of the year, when all fundraising
is complete we will pay Giftaid to all charities concerned.
Q. If all of my sponsors have ticked the Giftaid box on my sponsor form does that
mean I will get the full 28%?
A. Not necessarily, not all gift aid claims are authorised, this is for many reasons,
the person may not have paid enough tax, may have paid using a charity cheque which
has been deducted from their salary pre-tax and doesn’t qualify or may have
given the wrong address or postcode. Charities Trust will claim as much Giftaid
as possible for your charity and will ensure that this is returned at the end of
the year when your fundraising is complete.
