Description

What is the project all about?

In Brazil, according to the Ministry of Cities, the housing deficit is estimated to be 6.3 million homes. In big cities as São Paulo, a huge number of low-income families live in slum areas where there just isn’t sufficient adequate housing available. Most low-income families living in these areas use self-construction or hire the services of local construction workers who have limited technical skills.

This situation frequently results in high costs, low quality homes and environmental problems. Habitat for Humanity Brazil is addressing this need through a three-year home improvements program that provides social and technical assistance, architect orientation, and will build and repair homes.

This program aims to serve 2.000 families from different slum areas of São Paulo State, from 2011 to 2015.

During this 5 day volunteering project you will work alongside some members of the community, undertaking a variety of manual labour tasks to renovate houses in São Paolo.

Put your heart and sweat into this rewarding experience and a give a helping hand to the children and families in need of this support.

Who is involved?

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) is the international charity who will be supported by your fundraising efforts.

‘HFH believes that enabling everyone to have a safe, decent place to live is catalytic in breaking the cycle of poverty. Everyone has a right to clean water, an education and healthcare’.

Together we will support Habitat for Humanity in making this a reality for the people of Sao Paulo.

Bibby Line Group (BLG) and the employees of the business will be working as a corporate partner for HFH in Brazil supplying the ‘man-power’ to support the project.

When you sign up for this event we ask you to pay a registration amount of 230 GBP. You will then continue to fundraise a further 1,520 GBP in support of this project.

Bibby Line Group commits to support each participant with match funding of up to £1,750. This is the total of your registration and fundraising target.

Charity Challenge is a UK event company who will be taking us to the project in Brazil. They look after the logistics on the ground and travel arrangements to and from the UK to Brazil.
