Stuart McCellend from BDL in Aspatria completed a Barn Dance event, which raised an impressive £13,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance & Cumberland Infirmary Children’s Ward.
“How it came about was my friend Andrew’s little boy got really ill with e-coli and had to be put on IV`s for over 12 months. He had several operations and the ward looking after him was fantastic. I am pleased to say he has now fully recovered and is fit and well. After getting involved with the Giving Something Back programme I suggested we should organise a charity event to raise some money for the children’s ward in this local hospital. As Andrew is a farmer the ideal event was a barn dance! There were many volunteers including myself who helped clean out the barn and set it up for the dance which took over a week! To raise the money the Tickets were sold at £15.00, all profits from the bar were, sponsorship from local businesses and a wide range off prizes were donated for the charity auction.” - Stuart

Stuart also completed a golf day for his local rugby club, who mainly run off donations and sponsors. Cash was needed for the junior team and so a charity golf day was organised. Stuart thought this would be a great opportunity to get involved and help get some money put back into my town’s club. He volunteered to do the BBQ and raised £20.00 per person towards the final total and there was also a raffle which sponsors had given prizes for.
There is a team of ten running for the North West Air Ambulance in the London Marathon this year. If you have a place and want to join Team Bibby then get in touch.
Fundraising doesn’t just have to be about sponsored events and cake sales! There are many challenge events you can take part in that allow you to complete a personal challenge whilst raising funds for your favourite charity.
