Dragon Boat Racing and the Festival

Page ImageDragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 10 / 16 people paddle each 40’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering.

Page ImageThe festivals are open to everyone and up to 50 crews are expected to battle it out over the 250m race course, watched by thousands of spectators. A fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair, children’s activities plus food stalls and bars.

This year we are tying in with the well established events across the UK, taking place on:

9th May in East Anglia – 11 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £600

13th June in Chester – 17 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £800

20th June in Milton Keynes - 17 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £800

27th June in Peterborough - 17 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £800

8th August in Nottingham - 11 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £600

11th September – Cambridge - 11 team members raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £600

This event is open to everyone, not just Bibby Line Group employees. You can invite friends, families, clients, customer, and introducers. It is entirely up to you who makes up your team numbers.

You will receive £ for £ match funding for all sponsorship raised (up to £1500).

Includes

  • Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment.
  • At least 3 races per crew.
  • Music and entertainment.
  • Souvenir programme.
  • Trophies for the top three crews, the best-placed mixed crew (minimum 7 ladies), the crew raising the most money for the nominated charity and the ‘best dressed’ crew.
  • Medals for the top three crews.
